Writing reports
Draft a whole class with Batch
Fill in notes for every student, or upload a notes CSV, and draft the whole class in one go; each report still needs your review and sign-off.
Dictate your notes
Use the microphone to speak your notes instead of typing them; a school admin can switch dictation off for the whole school.
The %name placeholder
Reports show your school's name placeholder (usually %name) where the student's name goes; your reporting system fills in the names.
"Not in your notes": details Lantern flags
Why a draft can include details your notes never gave, what "not in your notes" and "a little beyond" mean, how to confirm or change each one, and why a "not in your notes" flag blocks sign-off until you do.
Change a draft with Refine
Tell Lantern how to change a draft in up to 300 characters; new facts belong in the notes, not the Refine box.
Report length limits and left-out notes
Drafts are written to your school's length limit and never cut; what to do when a report is over the limit or notes are left out.
Sign off and finalise a report
What the sign-off declaration means, what stops a report being signed off, and why saving a change to a finalised report reopens it.
Write a report from your notes
Pick a class and a student, type or dictate your notes, and Lantern drafts a comment in your voice for you to edit.
