Lantern's reports don't contain the student's name. Where the name goes, they show your school's name placeholder, which is usually %name. For example: %name has made steady progress in reading this term.
Why reports use a placeholder
Most school reporting systems fill in each student's name for you when the comment goes into the report. The placeholder is the marker they look for. Keeping it means:
- the comment drops straight into your reporting system
- the name is always spelled the way the school records it
What happens when you copy or download
The placeholder stays exactly as written when you copy a report or download it as PDF, Word or plain text. Your reporting system swaps in the name. See Find, copy and download your reports.
Your school's placeholder may be different
Schools use different markers, such as %name, [name] or <<name>>. Your school admin sets which one in School admin, under Name placeholder token. Use the same one your reporting system expects. If you're not sure which that is, ask whoever looks after your reporting system.
Writing the placeholder yourself
When you edit a report, type the placeholder where the name goes, exactly as your school writes it, rather than the student's real name. That way every report works the same way when it goes into your reporting system.
Names in your past reports
When you make your voice from past reports, Lantern replaces student names in them with the placeholder too. See Make your voice from five past reports.
