Refine lets you ask Lantern to rewrite a report, or part of it, in a different way. You say how to change it; Lantern rewrites it in your voice.
Refine the whole report
- In the editor, open the Notes & refine tab beside the report.
- In Tell Lantern how to change the report, say what you want. For example: warmer, more specific about her reading, end on a next step.
- Select Apply.
Lantern rewrites the report from the report itself. Your notes don't change.
Refine one part
Highlight a sentence or a few words in the report. The box changes to Editing your selection, and Lantern rewrites only those words. To go back to the whole report, choose Clear selection and edit the whole report instead.
When you have words highlighted you can also choose What's the rule? to see the school rule that applies there.
Keep instructions short: 300 characters
The Refine box holds up to 300 characters, whatever the length of the report. It's for saying how to change the report, not for adding new information.
If you go over, Lantern doesn't cut what you typed. It says "Keep instructions to 300 characters. Put the detail in your notes instead, or shorten this to apply it." Choose Add this to my notes to move the facts into your notes.
Why new facts go in your notes
Lantern checks every report against your notes. Anything in the report that your notes don't support is flagged as "not in your notes" for you to confirm. If you add a new fact through Refine, it gets flagged. Put it in your notes with Edit notes instead, and then choose to write the report again from them or keep your report and recheck it. See "Not in your notes": details Lantern flags.
Undo a change
Select Undo above the report to step back. The History tab lists every version; choose Restore on one to bring it back.
When Refine isn't available
Refine writes in your voice, so the report's class needs a voice. If it doesn't have one, Lantern leaves your text unchanged and tells you to choose a voice for the class first. You can always edit the report yourself by typing in it.
