Batch writes a report for every student in a class at once. You give notes for each student, Lantern drafts them all, and you then review and sign off each report as usual.
Batch is on a computer only. The phone version doesn't offer it.
Write a batch
- Open Batch from the sidebar. Make sure the Write tab is selected.
- Choose the Class and the Report type. The class's students load below, with the voice the class writes in.
- Type notes for each student, as dot points. Leave a student blank to skip them.
- Select the Write button at the bottom. It says how many reports it will write.
Your notes save as you type, so you can leave the page and come back to them before you start.
If a student needs pronouns, Batch says so. Set them on the class page first. A student who already has a finalised report of this type is left out, unless you tick Write another.
Use a spreadsheet instead
If you keep notes in a spreadsheet:
- Open Roster CSV and choose Download roster CSV. You get a file with every student already listed.
- Fill in the
notescolumn and save it as a CSV. - Open Roster CSV again and choose Upload notes CSV….
Lantern matches each row to a student by name and tells you how many it filled, and which rows didn't match the class list.
While it runs
The progress page shows each student as Waiting, Writing… or Ready, with how many things need fixing before sign-off. Select Open on a student to open their report. Cancel batch stops the rest. Discard deletes the reports this batch wrote.
Every report still needs you
Batch drafts the reports; it doesn't finish them. Open each one, work through Before you sign off, and finalise it. See Sign off and finalise a report.
To check comments you've already written somewhere else, use the Compliance tab instead. See Check comments written somewhere else.
