LanternReport Writer

Check comments written somewhere else

Paste one finished comment or a whole class's comments and Lantern checks them against your school's rules, with no AI drafting.

Already written your comments somewhere else, such as in your school's reporting system? Lantern can check them against your school's rules without writing anything. You paste the comments in; Lantern checks them and shows what to fix. It doesn't draft or rewrite them.

Check one comment

  1. Open Write a report.
  2. Choose the Class and the Student.
  3. Above the text box, choose Check a finished comment.
  4. Paste the comment into Finished comment. Put your school's name placeholder (usually %name) where the student's name goes.
  5. Select Check.

The comment opens in the editor with anything to deal with listed under Before you sign off, just like a report Lantern wrote. Fix what's needed, then finalise it. For a suggestion you disagree with, choose Keep mine. See Deal with rule findings and suggestions.

A checked comment is saved as a report for that student, so you can finalise and export it like any other.

Check a whole class

  1. Open Batch and choose the Compliance tab. You can also choose Check a finished comment on a class page.
  2. Choose the Class and Report type. The class's year group and the report type decide which rules apply.
  3. Paste each student's comment into the box beside their name. Leave a student blank to skip them.
  4. Select the Check button. It shows how many reports it will check.

Prefer a spreadsheet? Choose Download roster CSV to get the class list, paste each comment into the report_text column, then choose Upload reports CSV….

Each comment shows Pass or what needs fixing as it's checked. Choose Open in the editor to review and edit to work through one. Download CSV saves the results.

Good to know

  • Because nothing is drafted, your voice isn't used here. Like writing, though, checking opens once your setup is finished: a voice, a class and a student.
  • Comments aren't checked against notes, because there are none.
  • The rules check uses AI and isn't perfect. See How your school's rules are checked.

Still stuck?

Email support@lanternreports.com.au and a real person will get back to you.

  • How your school's rules are checked

What the rules check looks at, where to see your school's rules, the difference between must-fix rules, suggestions and teacher checks, and the check's limits.

  • Deal with rule findings and suggestions

Use "Yes, fix it", keep your wording, dismiss a suggestion or mark off a teacher check so the report can be signed off.

  • Draft a whole class with Batch

Fill in notes for every student, or upload a notes CSV, and draft the whole class in one go; each report still needs your review and sign-off.
