A report is finished when you sign it off. Signing off says you've read the report, edited it where needed and approve it. Until then it stays in progress, and it can't be exported.
Finalise a report
- Work through the Before you sign off list beside the report until nothing is left under Must do.
- Select Finalise report at the top of the editor. Lantern checks the report one last time.
- Tick the declaration: "I have reviewed this report, edited it where necessary, and approve it for finalisation and communication."
- Select Confirm and finish.
The report is now marked Finalised. You can export it straight away, or later from the Reports page. See Find, copy and download your reports.
Next student does the same thing as you move through a class: it shows what's left to deal with, asks you to sign off, then opens the next student's report.
What stops sign-off
If something is still open, Lantern shows Not finalised yet and lists what's Still to do. Choose an item to go straight to it. A report can't be signed off while:
- it breaks one of your school's firm rules (these can't be dismissed, only fixed)
- a suggestion from your school's rules is still open (you can keep your wording to dismiss it)
- it's over the maximum length
- it has a detail that's not in your notes and you haven't confirmed it
- Lantern hasn't yet checked it against your notes
Items under Worth a look never stop sign-off. There's no minimum length at sign-off.
Changing a finalised report
Finalised reports stay editable. But your sign-off covered the text as it was, so saving any change reopens the report. Lantern shows "Edited since you finalised it. Finalise it again when you're ready." Accepting a fix from a school check counts as a change too. Finalise it again when you're done.
Editing your notes on a signed-off report also reopens it.
