Ways to sign in

Sign in with your school Google or Microsoft account or an email and password; personal accounts can't be used; connect another sign-in method from your Account page.

Lantern comes through your school, so you sign in with your school account. There are three ways to sign in, all on the sign-in page.

Google or Microsoft

If your school uses Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, choose Continue with Google or Continue with Microsoft and sign in with your school account.

  • Use your school account, not a personal one. Personal Google and Microsoft accounts can't be used with Lantern.
  • For Google, the account must be managed by your school.
  • For Microsoft, it must come from your school's Microsoft organisation, and your school's IT admin may need to approve Lantern once before anyone can sign in with Microsoft.

The first time you sign in with your school Google or Microsoft account, Lantern makes your account and adds you to your school as a teacher. If you need admin access, ask your school's Lantern admin to change your role after you've signed in.

If you don't see a Google or Microsoft button, that option isn't available yet. Sign in with your email and password instead.

Email and password

Under Or continue with email, type your school Email and Password, then select Sign in. Password accounts are set up for you by Ember. There's no sign-up form.

Only school email addresses

Whichever way you sign in, your email address has to be on a domain registered to your school, such as @yourschool.edu.au. Your school's domains are added by Ember.

Connect another way to sign in

You can add Google or Microsoft to an account you already have, even if that account's email address is different.

  1. Select your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Sign-in methods.
  2. Choose Connect Google or Connect Microsoft and sign in with your school account.

To stop using one, choose Disconnect. You can't remove your only way of signing in: connect another first.

  • Sign-in problems and forgotten passwords

What the sign-in error messages mean (school not set up, too many attempts, IT approval for Microsoft) and how to get a forgotten password reset.

  • Your school's email domains

Only staff with an email on a domain registered to your school can sign in; Ember adds domains, so the Domains page is read only.

  • Get Lantern for your school

Lantern comes through your school, not individual sign-up; how to sign in if your school uses it or book a demo if it doesn't.
