Lantern only lets people sign in with an email address on a domain registered to your school. A domain is the part after the @, such as yourschool.edu.au. This keeps your school's Lantern to your own staff.
See your school's domains
Open Settings from the sidebar, then the Domains tab. It lists every email domain registered to your school.
The page is read only. School admins can see the list but can't add or remove domains.
Adding or removing a domain
Only Ember can add or remove a school's domains. This is deliberate: a domain decides who can join your school.
Contact us if you need a change, for example:
- your school has a second email domain, such as one for junior and senior campuses
- your school is changing its email domain
- staff are told "Your school isn't set up with Lantern yet" when they sign in with a school email
Tell us the school's name and the domain to add or remove.
Microsoft schools
If your staff sign in with Microsoft, Ember also records which Microsoft organisation each domain belongs to. Only accounts from that organisation can sign in with Microsoft. Guest accounts and personal Microsoft accounts are refused. If staff are told "Your school isn't set up for Microsoft sign-in yet", contact us.
"No domains registered"
If the page shows No domains registered but people are using Lantern, they may be signing in through another registered domain. Ember's own staff and demo logins, for example, sign in on Ember's domain. Contact us if your own staff can't sign in.
Having a domain doesn't give access on its own
A registered domain lets staff sign in. Teachers who sign in with Google or Microsoft get an account the first time; password accounts are set up by Ember. See Add staff and change roles.
