Every class writes in one voice. When you write a report for a student, Lantern uses the voice of their class. You can use the same voice for as many classes as you like, or keep a different voice for each.
See or change a class's voice
- Open Classes from the sidebar and choose the class.
- Under Voice, the box Which voice does this class write in? shows the current voice.
- Choose another of your voices from the list. The class writes in it from now on.
Reports you've already written keep their text. The new voice is used for new reports and for rewrites.
To make a new voice just for this class, choose + Add voice on the class page. Once it's saved, the class writes in it.
Different voices for different classes
Your voice can sound different from one class to the next. Year 2 comments read differently from Year 6 ones, and a subject report differs from a general comment. If you teach more than one subject or year, set up a voice for each:
- Open Writing profile from the sidebar.
- Choose New voice and give it five past reports from that class or subject.
- Name it so you can tell your voices apart, such as Year 6 maths.
- Choose it on the class page.
Writing profile lists all your voices and which classes use each one.
One report in a different voice
On the Write a report page, the line under the class shows which voice it writes in. To use another voice for just one report, choose use another voice for this report and pick it. The class keeps its own voice.
A class with no voice
A class with no voice shows No voice yet, and Lantern can't write reports for it. When you try, Lantern asks you to choose one of your voices for the class or make one. This doesn't stop you opening reports that already exist.
Voices are yours
A voice is made from your own reports and belongs to you. Other teachers don't see or use your voices.
