Lantern saves your work as you type. There's no Save button to remember for your notes or your reports. If you close the page, lose your connection for a moment or switch to another student, your words are kept.
What saves as you type
Every box you type into, including:
- your notes on the Write a report page
- the notes for each student in Batch
- the report text in the editor
- the Refine box
- the five reports when you make a voice, and the reports you write in the no-past-reports wizard
- a student you've started adding to a class
Where it comes back
Your text comes back in the same place: the same class and student, the same report, the same box. It's saved to Lantern, not just your browser, so it also comes back if you sign in on another computer.
Text you type before you've picked a student isn't lost either. It carries over to the first student you pick.
Once you've used the text, for example when Lantern writes the report from your notes, the saved copy is cleared.
Knowing it's saved
Under a notes box you'll see "Saved. You can leave and come back." When you come back to a box with saved text, Lantern says "We kept what you typed last time."
In the editor, the bar above the report shows Saving… while it saves, then Saved just now.
If saving fails
If your connection drops, Lantern says "Couldn't save just now. Your text is still here." or Autosave failed in the editor. Don't close the page. Your words stay on screen. Check your connection, then type a little more so Lantern saves again. If it keeps failing, copy your text somewhere safe and see When something won't load or seems stuck.
Signed-off reports
Saving a change to a finalised report reopens it, because your sign-off covered the text as it was. Finalise it again when you're done. See Sign off and finalise a report.
Still stuck?
